
Vicky Charisi is a Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) based at the Singapore-MIT Alliance on Research and Technology in Singapore and a Research Affiliate at Harvard University, Berkman Klein Centre for Internet and Society. Her work focuses on child development in the context of AI and robotic systems and on the impact of Human-AI interaction on human flourishing and social transformation. With expertise spanning research, design, and policy, Vicky examines how emerging technologies interact with children’s learning, behaviour, and emotional well-being. Her interdisciplinary approach aims to inform the design of ethical, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate AI systems for young users.
Vicky’s contributions to the academic community are reflected in her numerous publications in leading journals and international conferences, where her insights have advanced understanding at the intersection of human development and technology. Her research is recognized for addressing both theoretical and applied challenges, creating pathways for impactful, evidence-based innovations in AI by collaborating with frontline industries such as the HONDA Research Institute in Japan. She serves as a chair in multiple advisory boards such as the United Nations agency on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for their work on Generative AI Literacy.
Prior to her roles at MIT and Harvard, Vicky served as a Research Scientist at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. There, she focused on the societal impact of AI on human behavior, adopting a “Science for Policy” perspective to ensure that technological advancements align with ethical principles and societal needs.
